Yellowhammers.

Ollie and I went for our usual walk, down to the River Whiteadder in Berwickshire. On the way down we came across a heap of old grain sweepings from one of the farmers’ sheds, probably dumped for the local pheasants. In the winter time this food store also benefits other wildlife and one of the local birds taking advantage was the yellowhammer. So Ollie and I sat on the snowy banking for a while and took a few pictures.

It was pretty cold but I had my fleece jacket and thermals.Ollie on the other hand,…didn’t.Apparently not one of his better walks!

About Phil Mclean

Hi, my name is Phil Mclean. I'm a nature photographer living in Berwickshire,in the Scottish Borders.I enjoy photographing all aspects of nature, from the birds and the bees,to the mammals and the trees. I just love being out in the countryside whenever possible and preferably with a camera. Although I do make it difficult for myself,as I'm normally accompanied by my photographic assistant, Ollie,my springer spaniel dog. I hope you'll enjoy the pictures that I post and if you have the time and the inclination, please leave a comment. Thanks.

Very good images. Like the image of the 3 together. Hope Ollie is now snug in front of the fire

  2. Viv Potts says:

Wow! Great images…very impressive…though Ollie obviously wasn’t impressed at all! You’ll have to make it up to him.

Don’t worry about Ollie….big spoiled brat.
I’m getting such a dirty look, from him, for writing that last sentence.
Mind you,I must admit I didn’t plump up the cushions on his armchair this morning.
      Maybe he’s got a point!

  3. another great set Phil, lovely composition.

These are incredible photos — so well-focused and bright! The varied yellows against the white crisp snow are very striking — all the more so for being elevated into prominence by a plainer background.
